I was the Product Owner and UX Lead on the Everyday Well Patient Portal for the largest healthcare system in Houston, Memorial Hermann. Our portal was built using a platform from Cerner, our Electronic Health Record provider, and our existing Find a Doctor functionality was a mess of poorly constructed code, lacked an overarching strategy, and was not a useful feature for our patients.
Working with a third-party software vendor our goal was to create a modern, easy to use patient experience that expediated the provider finding and appointment setting process.
Our first major hurdle was discovering what we could do with the vendor's API. Working with our developers and the vendors, we mapped out the possibilities provided by the API which I was then able to integrate within our high level epics.
As the Product Owner on the team, it was my responsibility to write most of the epics and user stories. I also created a comprehensive spec with requirements and updates needed for the vendor to make adjustments to their API to suit our needs.

I designed the entire Find A Doctor section based off of previous research performed with our patients, existing functional requirements, and executive-level requirements. I then created prototypes and performed usability testing using UserZoom and selected users from their panel. This feedback was then integrated into the mocks and then comprehensive user stories and dev specs were created.

Our mobile app was a wrapper app provided by Cerner, our EHR and portal platform vendor, that pulled in our responsive code. It was important that the Find A Doctor experience was as easy to use on a phone as it was on a desktop. Based off my analysis of our Google Analytics data, I found that a significant portion of our users accessed Everyday Well via mobile, and that number was increasing month to month. We made a commitment across the board to ensure our portal was truly responsive and adapted to smaller viewports.

I left the company before the project was fully implemented, though it was fully designed and speced when I left, the UI was built and was receiving data from the API.
